WebFeb 19, 2013 · Putting flatwounds on a SG sounds like a bad marriage to me. Better get a different guitar type. Another point is that flatwounds often have a wound 3rd, which I never appreciated. And I like my strings light, something like 9-42 or 10-46. You can hardly get any flatwounds with an unwound 3rd in 9-42.
